Atmor ThermoPro 18 KW Specifications

Mounting a tankless water heater is generally easier than mounting a standard water heater, and it’s no different with this model. The machine itself is 17.4 x 5.2 x 13.4 inches and weighs around 17 pounds. While it isn’t the lightest of on-demand water heaters, you do get some good performance out of it.

To safely and efficiently run this particular water heater, you need to install three 30-amp double pole breakers. This will cover the 75-amp draw, which the water heater needs to operate. A 200-amp electric service would easily cover this water heater, but you could also pull it off with 150-amp service.

Users have reported some lights flickering despite having self-modulating technology which should prevent this. We didn’t encounter this during normal and continuous use. If you want to learn more about how electric on-demand water heaters types work, look into our guide for more info. To control the temperature of the unit, you have a dial and a digital temperature display.

Another interesting feature with this unit is the low inlet water temperature, that this water heater can use. Surprisingly, it can support water at 37°F (2.7°C) with a flow rate of 1.9 GPM (7.19 LPM). The reason this unit can support that much of a temperature difference is the 18kW at 240V of power that the heating elements use.

Customer Support and Warranty

Parts on this model are guaranteed by the manufacturer for a lasting period of 2 years, and you get a 7-year no leaks guarantee as well. If you need assistance with installation or have any questions, there is a phone line you can call before making any purchase.

What to Expect from Atmor ThermoPro 18 KW?

As it is the case with most compact models, the best application for this type of water heater is as a point-of-use water heater. The producer recommends this heater to be used in 4 applications, meaning 4 fixtures. In a climate where the tap water is around 70-80°F (21-26°C), you will get the max flow output of 3.7 GPM (14 LPM).

That much hot water flow translates into a washing machine and standard shower working simultaneously. Or, you could have two showers running at once with enough flow for a bathroom sink as well. We like this model as a single, or double-bathroom solution, in the right climate.

In a colder climate, you can still get some performance out of this machine, but the support it will offer you will be about 1-2 fixtures max.

Pros

  • Can support up to 4 fixtures at the same time if used correctly
  • Has a very low inlet water temperature threshold
  • Helpful user guide

Cons

  • Only viable as a point-of-use heater
  • Can only support 1-2 fixtures in a cold climate

Wrap Up

In the event that you are looking for a water heater to put in an additional guest bathroom or a new kitchen, you can count on this unit to support your needs. The design is simple, easy to install and use. In a warm-to-medium climate, you can get a satisfactory flow of hot water to multiple fixtures.

Living in a cold climate may not completely stop this machine from being useful, but it does severely limit how much water it can actually exert.  We hope we have covered everything in our Atmor ThermoPro 18 KW review.
